California's coastline is known for its annual migration of various species of whales. Gray whales can be seen off Dana Point from December to May, often just a mile or two off the beautiful coastline. Dana Point celebrates the return of the California Gray Whale this year with the 44th annual Festival of Whales event! This exciting community activity draws more than 100,000 residents and visitors and takes place over two weekends, March 7-8th & 14-15th, 2015. The event offers fun activities, food and presentations about education and responsibility to the environment.

The Dana Point Festival of Whales includes an opening day parade, along with a family-friendly street fair. There are tons of other activities for the whole family such as: sand sculpting, live music concerts, a Polynesian cultural event and of course whale-watching excursions. Other highlights of this Dana Point event include a pancake breakfast, arts & crafts exhibits, classic car and vintage boats, educational opportunities and environmental activities.

The first weekend of the Dana Point Festival of Whales will feature several art exhibits from local Dana Point artists, a walking tour of Town Center hosted by the Dana Point Historical Society, a fishing clinic and expo for kids, a "Diamond Dig" where you can dig for prizes and treasures, a Marine Mammal Lecture series and so much more!

The second weekend includes more fun activities such as a Grunion Run, free movies, a Beach Cleanup, the Doheny State Beach Mobile Marine Mammal Museum and tons of other great things to do and see!

The popular Water Taxi is back by popular demand this year and is offered between Dana Wharf and the Ocean Institute from 10:00am to 4:00pm.  There is also a free shuttle for the Dana Point Festival of Whales throughout the Festival venues and parking lots.
