California existing home sales fell from the previous year in April as tight inventory continues to impede the housing market. April marked the second worst start to a spring homebuying season since the housing recovery started in 2009.

407,000 California homes sold in April 2016 compared to 430,000 in April 2015.

The median selling price in April 2016 climbed to $509,000 from $484,000 in April 2015.

Fête de la Musique


The 9th Annual Fête de la Musique will take place Saturday, June 18 in Laguna Beach.

Fête de la Musique was conceived by American musician Joel Cohen in 1976 while he was working at a radio station in France. He proposed an all-night music celebration during the summer solstice, which was recognized by the French Minister of Culture, and subsequently held in France in 1982.

Laguna Beach Sister Cities debuted the Fête de la Musique in June of 2008 and in 2010, Laguna Beach Sister Cities and our Fête de la Musique won "Best New Arts Program" by the Laguna Beach Arts Alliance.

The table above contains the latest reported existing home sales series, median home prices, unsold inventory index, median time on market, first-time buyer housing affordability index, and the latest mortgage rates.

406,800 homes sold in California in April 2016 with a median price of $509,100. Homes were on the market for an average of 27.7 days with a 3.5 month supply of unsold inventory. Homes sold for an average of $244 per square foot and the sales to list ration was 99.3%. The affordability index remained steady at 34%.
