seafest at the pier

The 28th Annual San Clemente Seafest At The Pier will be hosted by the San Clemente Chamber of Commerce on Sunday, October 4, 2015, 9:00am - 3:00pm.

Chowder and more are on the menu for this years Seafest with a Chowder Cook-off, Fishermans Lobster, Business Exposition, Arts & Craft Show, Surf Contest, Children & Teen Contests, Childrens Complementary Arts & Crafts, Entertainment and a U.S. Coast Guard Search & Rescue Demo Operation.

The chowder contest participants range from restaurant pros as well as local amateurs. A eight-dollar ticket entitles you to get five tastes. Free shuttle parking is available at the San Clemente High School, 700 Ave. Pico from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

casa romantica


Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens
, a non-profit organization, is Southern California's premier cultural center offering programs for all ages in music, history, horticulture and literature. Located in San Clemente, Casa Romantica was built in 1927 by Ole Hanson, one of San Clemente's co-founders, as his family home. Built with seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

The property had various owners over the years and it was owners Lambert and Patricia Schyler who bought it and named it Casa Romantica in 1946. The ex- Mrs. Fred Waring (of orchestra fame) purchased the home in 1952. Four years later, Mrs. Waring sold the home to Muriel and…

tail of 2 cities


The Pet Project Foundation will be holding its 14th annual "Tail of Two Cities" fundraiser Sunday, October 4, 2015 at the historic Casino San Clemente. This beautiful landmark has hosted celebrations for more than 75 years hosting Hollywood stars such as Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, and Dorothy Lamour.

This year's theme is "Sentimental Journey" and will highlight more than 30 years of animal rescue and community service by Pet Project Foundation.  "Sentimental Journey" will also tell the story of many of the shelter animals' experiences - of the journey they take from being an abandoned, homeless animal to finding a loving, forever home.

All proceeds from the event are used to rescue lost and abandoned animals in San Clemente, Dana Point and beyond. …

The giant blue whale is the largest whale on earth extending well over 80 feet in length. We are fortunate to have an influx of these majestic creatures off our shores in the summer and fall months making whale watching a popular activity. What is more thrilling than viewing one of these splendid mammals up close and personal.

beach cleanup


Saturday, Sept 19 is Coastal Cleanup Day in Dana Point which coincides with the Ocean Conservancy's Annual International Coastal Cleanup.

Cleanup sites in Dana Point include:

  • Dana Point Harbor Underwater Cleanup
  • Ocean Institute/Dana Point Marine Protected Area
  • Dana Point Yacht Club on-the-water Kayak Clean Up
  • Doheny State Beach and San Juan Creek
  • Salt Creek/Strand Beach
  • Dana Point Harbor Cigarette Butt Round-Up
  • Capistrano Beach

If one of these locations is not convenient for you, Coastal Cleanups are also taking place in other parts of Orange County.

The cleanups start at approximately 9:00 am and continue until about noon.

Please join us in helping keep our Dana Point and Orange County beaches beautiful.

laguna beach dance festival


2015 marks the 11th year for the Laguna Beach Dance Festival, one of Orange County's premier dance venues. The festival opened on Sept 9 and runs through Sept 13, so this is the last weekend to enjoy some spectacular performances.

This schedule for this weekend is as follows:

dana point all ships


The Ocean Institute has been celebrating Dana Point’s seafaring heritage with a Tall Ships Festival and this year is no different. The 31st Toshiba Tall Ships Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13.

You will be able to explore 7 of these majestic ships, learn about the Myths, Legends and Lore of the Sea and encounter a few mermaids along the way. Experience interactive living-history encampments, including blacksmiths, scrimshaw artists, knot tiers, British and American revolutionary period mariners, western vaqueros from the time of the Missions and Ranchos and now three Pirate encampments! And watch the Naval Historical Foundation perform their amazing reenactment and have your little ones join in our Pirate Parade!

9-11 heroes run


Once again, the 9/11 Heroes Run will take place in Dana Point at Sea Terrace Park. The Run is sponsored by the Travis Manion Foundation whose mission is to honor the fallen by challenging the living and the Dana Point 5th Marine Regiment Support Group.

The goal of the 9/11 Heroes Run is to unite communites by raising awareness, honoring the fallen, and never forgetting the sacrifices of the heroes of 9/11 and the wars since then.

Much of the monies raised through the Run are invested into the local community to support local veterans, first responders, troops and military families. Funds are also used to support the Travis Manion Foundation’s community building projects, programs that inspire future leaders, initiatives that foster camaraderie,…
