The California real estate market softened in January 2015 with the number of single family home sales dropping to 352 thousand in January compared to 361 thousand in January 2014 and 366 thousand in December 2014.
The median sales price dropped from $453,000 in December 2014 to $427,000 in January 2015. This was an increase in price from January 2014 however, when the median price was $412,000.

The California Association of Realtors closely monitors and analyzes trends in the residential real estate industry. The table below contains the latest reported existing home sales series, median home prices, unsold inventory index, median time on market, first-time buyer housing affordability index, and the latest mortgage rates.
Existing homes sales decreased 3.9% from Dec 2014 and 2.7% from January 2014. The median sales price dropped 3.4% from a year agoa to $412,820 with days on the market increasing 18.3% to 52.4 days.During the same period, mortgage rates on a 30-year fixed-ragte mortgage dropped .76% to 3.67%.
