CQ Press has rated Mission Viejo the safest city in the United States, according to their most recent study, City Crime Rankings: . Mission Viejo has been on the top 10 list since the inception of the Safest City and Metropolitan Area Awards in 1999. This is the first year to reign as number one. Detroit, MI took last place as the most dangerous city. A position it has held since 2003.
