For anyone who's interested in marine science, oceanography, or the environment, there are few better places to visit than the Ocean Institute at Dana point. Here, a variety of programs are offered throughout the week, while the Institute is open to the general public on the weekends, allowing them to have a closer look at what these programs do. In addition, the Institute also offers daily voyages on the “Sea Explorer”, its 70 foot research vessel that studies and observes the marine life around San Clemente.

San Clemente isn't exactly known for its wide, sandy beaches. That's because it doesn't have many – but what it does have is a wealth of cobblestones and seaweed that many residents dislike. Not only is it San_Clemente_Beach_Seaweedunsightly, but it's also difficult to walk on, while the accumulating seaweed also attracts kelp flies.

However, a new beach ecology report has stated that the cobble and seaweed on San Clemente is beach can be considered more or less permanent fixtures. The report supported a new policy that advises city government not to do anything to remove the cobblestone and seaweed, and risk policy won the backing of the city's Beaches, Parks and Recreation Commission during a vote last week.

San Clemente's government has been hit with a lawsuit by angry city residents who want the authorities to refund over $9 million in beach-parking impact fees and interest San Clemente at the Pierthat is currently being held by the city. The money comes from the collection of these over the last 23 years from homes that lie outside of the state-designated coastal zone in San Clemente.

The lawsuit, which was filed last week by attorney Brad Malamud, states that no new parking spaces have been built around San Clemente’s beaches, which was the intended purpose of the fund. Instead, the money just stays in the bank, except for some funds which have been improperly spent by authorities parking studies and land purchases.
