San Clemente will be turning lights off in city offices and all non-essential power at 8:30 this evening for one hour in support of the third annual ‘Earth Hour.’ We will be one of 2,500 cities from 82 countries participating worldwide in support of a call to action to address global climate change.

Scam artists often target San Clemente homeowners who are in distress situations and are struggling to make their mortgage payments. Watch out for the following foreclosure resuce scams:

  • Lease-Back or Repurchase Scams – Be very suspicious if someone offers to pay your mortgage and rent your home back to Protect your investmentyou.  This scheme often involves signing the deed to your home over to the con artist.  The con artist may promise to sell your home back to you, but this may be very difficult, if not impossible, under the terms of the contract.

    Signing over the deed gives the con artist the power to evict you, raise your rent, sell the house, or steal the equity you have in your home.  You will still be responsible for your mortgage, so if the con artist

You can deduct:

  • Your property taxes. And if you bought the home in 2008, you may be able to deduct more than you think. Don’t forget to include real estate taxes you reimbursed the seller for – taxes the seller had already paid for the time you actually owned the place after your purchase. San Juan Capistrano Real Estate Sales Statistics

Similar to our other Orange County communities, San Juan Capistrano real estate sales increased 69 percent in January compared to January 2008, but prices were down 55 percent. New listings were also down by 11 percent and market times were down 20 percent.
